Earthquakes frequently occur in the Philippines, as the country is situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Filipinos have been preparing for the “Big One” – a massive magnitude-7 earthquake that may hit Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces should the West Valley Fault, that had laid dormant for several centuries, become active.     

There has been an increase in major quakes in the past months, the most recent being the magnitude-6.5 quake that rocked parts of the Visayas region which dealt serious damage to some buildings and houses.
